Minister of Defence addresses participants of the international conference in the area of security and defence policy

Today, the second day of the international conference ‘Slovenia and Euro-Atlantic Integrations – Lessons Learned’, after the introductory address by Director General of the Intelligence and Security Service Dr Damir Črnčec, participants of the conference were addressed by Minister of Defence Dr Ljubica Jelušič. In her speech Minister mentioned campaigns aimed at the integration into NATO and EU, as well as the projects which the defence system carried out before and after NATO membership. Dr Jelušič also spoke of the beginning of engagement of the Slovenian Armed Forces and Police in international operations and missions. She stressed that in the past years the Ministry of Defence had actively transposed its experience to the neighbouring countries in the Western Balkans Region. Minister of Defence appealed to all conference participants to endeavour for international global security. In the margins of the conference Dr Jelušič met also with Director of the US-Russia Security Program and Black Sea Security Program Dr Sergei Konoplyov. The conference was attended also by Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces Major General Alojz Šteiner who presented the integration process of the Slovenian Armed Forces into NATO.
On the initiative of John F. Kennedy School of Government of the University of Harvard, the conference has been organized by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia within the framework of the Harvard Black Sea Security Program 2010. Presentations at the conference are given by representatives of the Ministry of Defence, Slovenian Armed Forces, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF).
